India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 – 23757 BPM, ABPM & Dak Sevak Posts

Posted: 30-Aug-2026, 02:00 AM

The Department of Posts, under the Ministry of Communications, has released its latest Gramin Dak Sevak engagement notification, opening up 23,757 posts spread across Branch Postmaster, Assistant Branch Postmaster and Dak Sevak roles. These positions are attached to rural Post Offices in Circles all over the country, with the North Eastern, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh Circles carrying the largest share of openings this cycle.

Unlike most government recruitment drives, GDS engagement does not involve any written examination or interview. Candidates are shortlisted purely on the strength of their Class 10 marks, converted to a percentage where needed, which makes the process comparatively quick but also means every mark on the certificate matters. The roles themselves involve handling mail, parcels, stamp sales and India Post Payments Bank transactions at the local level, and require candidates to reside within the area they will be posted to.

Candidates who meet the Class 10 and local-language requirements should complete their One-Time Registration early and keep their certificates ready, since names and dates of birth must match the Class 10 marksheet exactly. Applications and fee payment are open for a three-week window, followed by a short correction period before the merit list process begins.
