UPSC Recruitment 2026 – Selection Process

UPSC will make the recruitment by selection. Mere possession of the minimum qualification does not automatically guarantee an interview call. If the number of applications is large, UPSC may shortlist candidates using desirable qualifications, higher educational qualifications, higher relevant experience or a Recruitment Test (RT).

The selection process can therefore include:

  1. Online application and scrutiny of eligibility.
  2. Shortlisting based on the criteria prescribed by UPSC, wherever required.
  3. Recruitment Test (RT), if conducted by the Commission.
  4. Interview for shortlisted candidates.
  5. Document verification and final selection as per UPSC rules.

The notification specifies the minimum interview suitability level as 50 marks for UR, 45 marks for OBC and 40 marks for SC/ST/PH out of 100. Where a Recruitment Test is held, candidates must meet the required suitability level at both the RT and interview stages; the RT benchmark will be decided by UPSC on a case-by-case basis.
